Miniature Diorama

The Monterey & Salinas Valley Railroad Museum features a miniature diorama depicting the Monterey Bay and Salinas Valley - areas significant to the history of the railroad in the region. Cities such as Salinas, Castroville, Soledad, and San Lucas are included, as well as important agricultural sites involved in packing, shipping, and icing during the heyday of railroad transportation are also represented. Pictured to the left is the Salinas Train Station, dating from 1942.

Museum Events

The museum's annual Dinner Party on the Train raises funds for exhibits, maintenance, and basic costs of conserving historic railroad artifacts. Held in October, the event features live music, local wine, a sit-down dinner, and silent auction. Tours of the train cars and interactive historical exhibits round out an evening of fun, friends, food, and trains.

Every May we celebrate National Train Day on the Saturday before Mother's Day. It's fun for the entire family, with music, food, wine tasting, silent auction, kid's story time, crafts, vintage luggage contest, and much more. The event is free to the public on May 9th, 2015.
